Dr. Scott Rocklage began his impressive medical career by earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied under Nobel Prize Chemistry winner, Richard Schrock. Rocklage was CEO, President, and Chairman of Nycomed International from 1992 to 1994.
He co-founded Cubist Pharmaceuticals in 1994 and served as its CEO until 2003 and Chairman from 2000 to 2004. He has been the Managing Partner of 5AM Venture Management LLC since 2004. During these years, he has had a couple of other important leadership roles. He served as Director of Relypsa, Inc. Drom 2007 to 2014.
He followed by serving as Director of Epirus Biopharmaceuticals from 2014 to July 2016, and from May 11 until July 25 of 2016 as its CEO. In addition to his leadership of Venture Management, Rocklage also currently sits on the boards of the Whitehead Institute and the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. His considerable contributions to the medical industry include inventing more than 30 medical patents and publishing over 100 peer-reviewed works. Scott Rocklage has also played an instrumental role in creating and developing three FDA-approved drugs.
He is currently 62 years old and married to his wife of many years, Patricia in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2016, the couple visited his alma mater, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to whom they had earlier donated a huge amount for the renovation of its Lester Wolfe Professor of Chemistry.
Although Rocklage is a very busy man, in his rare spare time he likes to read or do further research.
